Do you know anyone who would be able to help the club by becoming a sponsor?

This could be money towards kit or equipment, which would help in the development of the club, as well as our many youth teams, for which you could have a banner displaying your details on the perimeter fence.

Or could you help by donating funds? Maybe buying a match ball for a specific game.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please call Helen on 01902 326235 or e-mail on helen@wfcc-online.co.uk

Thank you

Wightwick & Finchfield  are actively working towards Clubmark

Club History.

Wightwick Cricket Club was formed in 1947, the inspiration of John Hulme who vowed that upon his return from wartime postings he would form his own cricket club.

Back here in Wolverhampton he shared his vision with four friends who were captivated by the challenge, romance and passion of the venture and all demonstrated their commitment by contributing £1 each - and thus Wightwick Cricket Club was formed.

Since that time the club has seen highs and lows. One of the highest points was when the Club came of age in 1968 celebrating 21 years of cricket by hosting a festival week with representative sides from the MCC, England Ladies and Worcester CC. However one of the lowest points came at the end of the 2000 season when the timber built pavilion had to be demolished for safety reasons following general decline and compounding vandalism.

This saw a swift decline in membership and the future of the club rested in the hands of a few remaining members.

Their choice was to allow the club to fold or to look towards a rebuild. The latter option was taken and after struggling in porta cabins for 4 seasons and raising sufficient funds the club is now in the midst of a re-birth:

  • A new quarter of a million pound pavilion was completed last season.

  • There are 2 adult teams playing in Staffs Club Division 2 and 2a.

  • There are now 4 junior teams representing under 15, under 13 under 11 and under 9.

  • Membership is once again on the increase with future plans to  open the club to ladies teams and reinstate the Wightwick Knock Out competition (originally inaugurated in 1949).

  • Social membership is also on the increase, a factor encouraged by the prospects of a new club house which will be available for all functions.

The Club's message has always been about participation and enjoyment. Any person of any ability, age, race or sex is welcome to join either in a playing or social capacity.

Anyone wishing to know more about playing membership please contact the Club Chairman Peter Connelly (see contacts page for number).

Anyone wishing to know more about social membership please contact the club Treasurer Jo Taylor-Connelly (see contacts page for number).
